Would it be impractical to live in Glasgow if you have to communte to Ayr daily? Additionally, what's the transport service between Ayr and Glasgow like - frequent or dependable, or the opposite?

Not impractical at all. I know loads of folk from Ayr who commute daily to work in Glasgow. Theres a half hourly train service from Glasgow Central on the hour and half hour (sometimes during rush hour they whack on an extra one at a quarter to the hour). If you'd rather get the bus then theres the X77 express from Glasgow to Ayr straight down the M77/A77 - dont get the No 4 - it crawls down and goes through the likes of Symington and Monkton first.
